Vibe = Source + Out

Emil Wilbekin’s next plank in his platform will be laid today at his panel for gay executives in entertainment. Emil flexed his editorial control with a sensational article in Vibe magazine about homo thugs. During one of the worse soft ad markets, the urban magazine’s identity crisis has effectively set the stage for advancing Emil’s political agenda and turned Vibe into a hip-hop version of Out magazine. Gay vague indeed.
Velvet Mafia
Emil’s panel will include topics such as “Can gay men be on the come up in career advancement?” and “Do powerful gay men intimidate heterosexual men?”. Emil certainly isn’t the first openly gay editor of Vibe magazine, however he is the first who put his sexual identity first above his cultural identity. Emil has recently excised several positions held by long time staffers consolidating his power. This fiefdom will come in handy during his extended jaunts to France and such, since Emil himself is rarely in the office to provide editorial direction. Even artist diplomacy is left to Gil Rogin, who had to convince Jay-Z to be on the cover of Vibe after former staff has pissed him off.
Queen For a Day
After the article on homo thugs appeared in the July issue a young man [pictured left] appeared at the Vibe Offices. He began ranting and raving, demanding to see the editor-in-chief. He claimed he was not gay and that by putting his photo in the magazine, he had been incorrectly identified as a homo thug. He further stated that his parents had now disowned him and that his girlfriend had kicked him out of the house. Emil refused to meet with the young man, but Mimi was able to calm him down until he was escorted out of the building in a slow sashay.
The photos were taken at Club Speed on a Friday, which is a known homo thug haunt. Everyone entering the club was told that Vibe was shooting pictures for the magazine. Emil told his staff and friends to keep this in the closet, but they are barely backing him.
